Use an acid alkaline foods list to understand the body in terms of alkalinity or acidity. Here are some charts and lists. There are many lenses through which to view diet, health, and well-being. Acidity and Alkalinity is just one of these lenses. In general, diet and stress impact the homeostasis of the human body. We can view our imbalances in terms of over-acidity or over-alkalinity. PH is measured on a scale from 0-14, with 7 being neutral. Above 7 is alkaline and below 7 is acidic. If it goes up a unit, then it is ten times more alkaline, if it goes up 2 units it is 100 times more alkaline. If it drops a unit it is 10 times more acidic, 2 units 100 times, and so on. Again a PH of 7 is neutral. ![]() Food digested in the body makes the blood more acidic or alkaline. In homeostasis, blood is slightly alkaline, and functions optimally at the level of around 7.4. Likewise, it is a ideal that our diet is slightly more alkaline. Starting your alkaline diet has never been easier using our alkaline foods charts. Brown is an expert on pH balance and how it effects your bodies health. Amazon.com: alkaline acid food chart. Alkaline Vs Acidic Food: Everything You Want To Know About Acid Alkaline Diet (Alkaline-Acid Food Book 1) Sep 8, 2012. ![]() The reason acidosis is more common in our society is mostly due to the typical American diet, which is far too high in acid producing animal products like meat, eggs and dairy, and far too low in alkaline producing foods like fresh vegetables. Additionally, we eat acid producing processed foods like white flour and sugar and drink acid producing beverages like coffee and soft drinks. An acidic pH can occur from, an acid forming diet, emotional stress, toxic overload, and/or immune reactions or any process that deprives the cells of oxygen and other nutrients. The body will try to compensate for acidic pH by using alkaline minerals. If the diet does not contain enough minerals to compensate, a build up of acids in the cells will occur. This causes all kinds of health issues. An acidic balance will: decrease the body’s ability to absorb minerals and other nutrients, decrease the energy production in the cells, decrease it’s ability to repair damaged cells, decrease it’s ability to detoxify heavy metals, make tumor cells thrive, and make it more susceptible to fatigue and illness. A blood pH of 6.9, which is only slightly acidic, can induce coma and death. We can taste in certain foods that are highly alkaline: 1) Lemons 2) Limes 3) Grapefruits 4) Garlic 5) Herbal Teas It’s better to look at whether the food is acid–forming or alkaline–forming, not where the food itself falls on the pH scale. So even though we think of citrus as acidic, fruits like lemons and tangerines are alkalizing because when they’re consumed, they break down and donate alkaline mineral salt compounds like citrates and ascorbates. Similarly, foods we might normally think of as meek and mild in nature are acid-forming when ingested. Grains and milk are two examples. What’s important is not so much the pH of the food as it goes into our bodies, but the resultant pH once the food is broken down — and this is dictated by the residues the broken-down nutrients leave behind, particularly sulfates and phosphates. Credits –Angelfire.com –Womentowomen.com. I have just quit my prescribed anti-acid for acid reflux & hycosiamine for IBS. Just learned of a John’s Hopkins research about over counter prescriptions being overtaken and reducing kidney function 20-50%. After quiting say Nexium most have regained kidney function. So my interest is learning what foods to avoid and change of lifestyle diet keeping Acid producing foods minimized. Thanks Vijay for your request and possible chart referencing in future. I would like a copy also if becomes available. It is a bit useless chart. As you stated: “It’s better to look at whether the food is acid–forming or alkaline–forming, not where the food itself falls on the pH scale.” Also, you stated: “What’s important is not so much the pH of the food as it goes into our bodies, but the resultant pH once the food is broken down ” So knowing whether the food is acidic or alkaline is of academic interest only. A practical application would have been: what foods to eat to make the stomach more alkaline if one has the problem of “acidity” or GERD. (And, the opposite – but I have not heard of anyone having problem of lesser acid or more alkalinity in stomach. I guess this could happen if one has an impaired production of acid in response to foods eaten!) Anyway, so for practical application: Could you create list/chart of such foods? On left – “increases acidity in stomach when eaten”, and On right “decreases acidity in stomach when eaten”. Your comment should be deleted. You clearly read the post but TOTALLY misunderstood the information given. BOTH colored charts and the B&W table ARE organized in terms of acid-FORMING (“increases acidity in stomach when eaten”) and alkaline-FORMING (“decreases acidity in stomach when eaten”). Example 1: the post says all meats will test and taste non-acidic (higher pH) but they are very acid-forming when digested. Thus, all 3 figures have meats under the “Acid” category because they result in an acidic condition. Example 2: the post says we think of citrus like oranges and lemons as acidic (which they are when tested) but they are alkaline-forming. Thus all 3 figures list citrus under the “Alkaline” category because they result in an alkaline condition. The post gave you exactly what you are asking for three times, and you missed it. THE ACIDIC / ALKALINE FOOD CHART Acid and Alkaline Food. The difference between happiness and health. Or sickness, depression and medical bills. An acid body is a magnet for sickness, disease, cancer and aging. Eating more alkaline foods helps shift your body's pH and oxygenate your system. Alkaline foods keep your body healthy and functioning correctly, preventing cancer. PH Balance: The pH scale is from 0 to 14, with numbers below 7 acidic (low on oxygen) and numbers above 7 alkaline. The blood, lymph and cerebral spinal fluid in the human body are designed to be slightly alkaline at a pH of 7.4. At a pH slightly above 7.4 cancer cells become dormant and at pH 8.5 cancer cells will die while healthy cells will live. Foods are generally categorized as acid or alkaline based on the residue they leave in the human body after they have been metabolized. Often there are fad diets that recommend people eat either all acid or all alkaline foods to solve one disease or another. In reality, it is probably healthier to strive for a balanced middle ground. A variety of health problems can occur when the body is either too alkaline or acidic. When the body fluids become too acidic, a condition called acidosis develops. Conversely, when the body fluids become too alkaline, alkalosis results. Foods are determined to have either an alkaline or acid forming potential based on their pH values. (The word pH comes from the chemistry formula for calculating the concentration of hydrogen ions present in a substance. PH refers to the 'power of Hydrogen.' ) A pH of 7 is neutral. Foods with an alkaline ash have pH values above 7. Foods with an acid ash have pH values below 7. Pure water has a neutral pH of 7. In general most grains, dairy products, meats, seeds, legumes and nuts tend to have an acid ash. Most fruits and vegetables tend to have an alkaline ash. Cooked foods tend to be more alkaline than raw foods. Many holistic practitioners believe that modern Western diets are too acidic for good health due to a lack of fruits and vegetables. They often stress the importance of modifying one's diet to achieve a better acid-base balance. Foods such as orange juice and lemon juice are acidic but turn alkaline after they have been metabolized in the body. As such, for dietetic purposes they are usually considered to be alkaline despite being acidic prior to consumption. Most fruits are alkaline except a few, including cranberries, plums and prunes, because they contain acids the body can't metabolize. Over acidity, which can become a dangerous condition that weakens all body systems, is very common today. It gives rise to an internal environment conducive to disease, as opposed to a pH-balanced environment which allows normal body function necessary for the body to resist disease. A healthy body maintains adequate alkaline reserves to meet emergency demands. When excess acids must be neutralized our alkaline reserves are depleted leaving the body in a weakened condition. The following food and beverage chart indicates the associated alkaline or acid category. ALKALINE / ACIDIC FOOD CHARTS The charts below are provided for those trying to 'adjust' their body pH through their diet. The pH scale is from 0 to 14, with numbers below 7 acidic (low on oxygen) and numbers above 7 alkaline. These charts are intended only as a general guide to alkalizing and acidifying foods. Note that there may be some discrepancies between foods included on these charts.*.
